Lady Capulet and Juliet
Will you cry about your cousin’s death forever? Are you trying to wash him out of his grave with tears? If you could, you couldn’t bring him back to life. So stop crying. A little bit of grief shows a lot of love. But too much grief makes you look stupid.
You will feel the loss, but the man you weep for will feel nothing.
Well, girl, you’re weeping not for his death as much as for the fact that the villain who killed him is still alive.
That’s because the murderer is alive.
We’ll have revenge for it. Don’t worry about that. Stop crying. I’ll send a man to Mantua, where that exiled rogue is living. Our man will poison Romeo’s drink, and Romeo will join Tybalt in death. And then, I hope, you’ll be satisfied.
Let me keep weeping for such a great loss.
Feeling the loss like this, I can’t help but weep for him forever.
Juliet: She doesn't mean that she is crying because of Tybalt's death. She is sad because Romeo had left her. For her, losing Tybalt is sad because Tybalt was a really close relative. However, the love towards Romeo was bigger than the love towards Tybalt.
Audience: Audiences know what is going on because they are able to see everything that happens. Therefore, they are able to find the irony between the mother of Juliet's and Juliet. For them, "a great loss" means Romeo.
Lady Capulet: She thinks that Juliet is crying because her cousin Tybalt is dead. She doesn't know that Juliet is crying because of Romeo, since she never seen him with her daughter Juliet. Thus, she could not think other reasons rather than Tybalt.
"Will you cry about your cousin’s death forever? Are you trying to wash him out of his grave with tears?"-->this quote proves that she is talking about Tybalt.
May God pardon him! I do, with all my heart. And yet no man could make my heart grieve like he does.
Juliet: She is saying that she never met a person like Romeo. She is so into Romeo that romeo can make her feel this sad.
Lady Capulet: She might think like, "oh she loved Tybalt with all her heart".
Audience: We know that Juliet is thinking of Romeo when saying this quote. She, Juliet loved Romeo with all her heart. Juliet now cares about nothing but Romeo.
Yes, madam, he lies beyond my reach. I wish that no one could avenge my cousin’s death except me!
Juliet: Juliet wants to meet Romeo and see him. This quote was just an excuse. If she gets a job to take a revenge for Tybalt, she should meet Romeo.
Lady Capulet: She is thinking that Juliet really hates Romeo. She doesn't know that Juliet loves Romeo because she never seen them being together.
Audience: We know what Juliet is thinking. Juliet wants to see Romeo and though she meets Romeo for the revenge, she won't kill him because she loves him so much.
I’ll never be satisfied with Romeo until I see him . . . dead—dead is how my poor heart feels when I think about my poor cousin. Madam, if you can find a man to deliver the poison, I’ll mix it myself so that Romeo will sleep quietly soon after he drinks it. Oh, how I hate to hear people say his name and not be able to go after him. I want to take the love I had for my cousin and take it out on the body of the man who killed him.
Juliet: "I will never satisfied until I see him...dead..."-"I will never satisfied until I see him" is one sentence, which means she wants to see him not the dead one but the alive one.
Lady Capulet: She understood this quote as Juliet wants to kill Romeo so badly because Romeo killed her cousin Tybalt.
Audience: We could see that "I will never satisfied until I see him" is the one sentence. And then the other sentence starts from the word dead.k
