- Time consuming and labor intensive to design and execute for faculty and students

High Stakes Assessment: Tests are referred to as “high stakes” when significant consequences are tied to the performance of students on the test. - If scores are low, teachers may begin to lose motivation to try to help students succeed.

Portfolio assessment: is an evaluation tool used to document student learning through a series of
student-developed artifacts. Considered a form of authentic assessment, it offers an alternative
student work throughout the year and show student performance. Portfolio Assessment: Is of learning because it shows samples of student work throughout the year and show student performance.

Disadvantages of Portfolio assessment
- Portfolio will be no better than the quality of the collected artifacts
- Time consuming and challenging to evaluate

Peer assessment: is the assessment of students' work by other students of equal status. Students often undertake peer assessment in conjunction with formal self-assessment.

Advantage of Peer assessment
- Encourages student involvement and responsibility.
- Encourages students to reflect on their role and contribution to the process of the group work.
Disadvantage of Peer assessment
- Students may be reluctant to make judgments regarding their peers.
- At the other extreme students may be discriminated against if students ‘gang up’ against one group member.

Self Assessments: Is assessment or evaluation of oneself or one's actions and attitudes,
in particular, of one's performance at a job or learning task considered in relation to an objective standard.

- Potentially increases lecturer workload by needing to brief students on the process as well as
on-going guidance on performing self-evaluation.

Authentic assessment: is the measurement of "intellectual accomplishments that are worthwhile,
significant, and meaningful, " as contrasted to multiple choice standardized tests. Authentic Assessment: Is For learning as students learn throughout the process of completing the assessments
Advantage of Authentic assessment
- Authentic assessment helps students see themselves as active participants, who are working
on a task of relevance, rather than passive recipients of obscure facts.
- Allows students to choose own path for demonstrating skill set
- Reflection of real-world skills and knowledge
Disadvantages Authentic assessment
- Time-intensive to manage, monitor, and coordinate
- Difficult to coordinate with mandatory educational standards
Authentic: In Ethiopian Studies students practice what they have learned in real life and show evidence of their practice.
