What?

A collectivist approach relates to the individualism scale on the cultural domains designed by Hofstede. Collectivism is about being part of a larger group, and not focusing individually.

Who?

Teachers and schools will design their classrooms to be collective, and less individualistic to better suit the needs of their Mexican and Chinese ELL.

Where?

As previously discussed this will take place in schools and classrooms to reflect the cultures of their students.

When?

This is something that should take place during class to make ELL feel more included. It should be noted that the individualistic approach should still be used for American students, and the teachers should find the correct balance in his/her classroom.

How?

By allowing Mexican and Chinese ELL to express their ideas through their collective thoughts, and give social context to concepts. Teachers should guarantee that their classrooms are inclusive of this practice, and that others understand the purpose of the social context, too.

Why?

This will help ELL participate in class discussions, and gain a further understanding of concepts by applying their social context. It will teach others about the ELLs' backgrounds, and therefore, make standard students more aware, knowledgable, and respectful of Mexican and Chinese students and their backgrounds.
