Do insect repellents work against ticks?

Ticks are an evolving carrier that can transmit diseases by developing resistance to overused insect repellants. In most of the cases, the repellents contain DEET and it is considered to be the most effective. But, it has a lethal dose level that only kills more than half of the insects.
