When you setup your router initially, Netgear genie helps you to detect your internet connection type and detects if the router is connected to any existing network or gateway.

After the Netgear genie has detected an existing network, it gives you an option to set your Nighthawk router to the Access Point (AP) mode or to the router mode.

Follow the steps below to install your Nighthawk router in Access Point mode:

Establish Connection between your Nighthawk router and your network. Switch on your Nighthawk router and wait till the lights become stable.
Login to the web interface through http://www.routerlogin.com/ or http://www.routerlogin.net/.
Let the Netgear genie finish detecting an existing router in the network.
Select Let Me Choose and then select Access Point Mode. Click Next
Disable your existing gateway’s Wi-Fi by selecting yes. Enter your existing gateway network name SSID and passphrase. Then, manually disable your existing gateway’s Wi-Fi.
Let your router reboot.
Click Next to finish the setup.
Finally, Your Nighthawk router is installed as an Access Point.
